So, we are in Tokyo now.No big mishaps, but, as is the way of these things, its never completely smooth. It seems my backpack didnt arrive with me,and so I currently have only the clothes on my back .Which actually worked out okay since it took us several hours to find the ryokan so I got to watch Emmie struggle a little.Having successfully navigated the Tokyo underground, feeling like a native with my pigeon Japanese, I boldly led us along the directions I had carefully outlined, which was fine until we got to ’turn left past the liquor store’. This presented problems given that neither of us know what a liquor store looks like in Japan. After harrassing an old man who took us into an English speaking hotel, we listened to him and the receptionist have a conversation which sounded disturbingly like ‘please get these tourists to leave me alone.’Fortunately the receptionist was helpful. Unfortunately I managed to rip my trousers on the way out.
Two things worth mentioning here.Firstly I would remind the reader that I have no luggage, hence I have ripped not just any pair of trousers but my only pair. Secondly I would point out that it ripped along the thigh muscle, hence I attribute it to me flexing my powerful muscular legs rather than me leaning on the side of chubby after a month in France, as readers of the french version might infer. It makes me feel slightly better to think that way at least.
Unfortunately we werent exactly in the shopping hub of Tokyo at the time so I picked out the first shop I could find for emergency replacement clothes. It turned out to be a shop for older Japanese gentlemen. I am now decked out in a rather dashing bright banana yellow t-shirt and shorts combo.I refused to carry Emmie’s pink flowery hand luggage for her while wearing this since it would be only a short step away from listening to Cher. Photo to follow unfortunately. Again, I choose not to attach significance to the fact that I bought size XXXXXXXXL. People are small here after all...
